Meet Dr. Stephen Foster
Chiropractic literally saved my life! Saved me from a life of pain pill addiction, and saved me from unnecessary surgery.
When I was 20 years old, I was a pre-med student at the University of Nevada. One day while driving home from college, I fell asleep at the wheel. I rolled the car and was thrown through the driver’s side window. I remember it like it was yesterday. I remember flopping around in that rolling car like a rag doll. And then all of sudden, quiet. I was floating through the air, fully aware of what was going on. Then, BAM!!! I hit the ground, it knocked the wind out of me. It hurt so bad, I couldn’t breathe. I tried to cry but couldn’t cry either. I just knew that I was lying there in the desert and was going to die. All I could think of was my family. I wanted to see them one more time and tell them that I loved them.
After a few minutes, I caught my breath and realized I was going to be ok. I got to my feet, and walked back to the car, from which my buddy was climbing out. It was a miracle. I had the cruise control set on 75 MPH when I fell asleep. I spent the next week in the hospital recovering from injuries.
Over the next several months most of my injuries healed. The one thing that continued to bother me was really bad lower back pain with pain shooting down my left leg. I had an MRI that showed bulging discs in my low back. My doctor was giving me pain pills and muscle relaxers which really didn’t help much.
I was 20 years old and couldn’t walk without crutches. After considering surgery (that was the only option, according to the surgeon) I decided against it.
A friend of mine convinced me to do something that I never would have done without his constant urging. He suggested I see a chiropractor. I didn’t know a thing about chiropractic, I assumed a chiropractor was some one who “cracked backs” and that this somehow was supposed to help with back pain. Wow, was I wrong!! It did help with my back pain, saved me from surgery and pain pill addiction. But I witnessed other things that I never dreamed of. I saw small children being helped with asthma and allergies and ear infections and older folks getting help with acid reflux and all other kinds of health issues. This experience caused me to change my career path from medicine to chiropractic.
I attended the University of Nevada, and the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic. Both schools provided an excellent education.
On a Personal Note…
My wife, Kris, and I decided to leave the Las Vegas area in search of a better community to raise our three children, Chase, Dylan and Jaden. We love the people of Claiborne County and agree there is not a place much prettier than East Tennessee. We love the outdoors and spend our spare time hanging out at the lake or hiking in the woods. I enjoy Hunting and Fishing. One of my favorite hobbies is competing in Bass Tournaments.
Since moving to Claiborne County, I have really been lucky. I have three chiropractors that treat me at different times. I get adjusted weekly. I belong to Doc’s Gym and work out three times per week. I don’t smoke, and never use over the counter pain meds. I pay attention to the types of foods I eat, and keep a pretty close eye on foods that my children eat. Fast food is kept to a minimum. My kids were vaccinated, but were not vaccinated in the current recommended schedule. I worked very closely with a pediatrician who was very conservative, which meant more trips to the doctor and added expense. If I knew back then what I know now regarding vaccines, I would not have them vaccinated at all. I am proud to be able to say that my 6-year-old has only been on one round of antibiotics, and my 5-year-old has never been on antibiotics.
